How to regain control of an anxiety attack.

Meme by Nemeth Counselling

I often encourage my clients to practice deep breathing exercises and grounding to combat anxiety attacks. Im telling you it works. I have struggled with anxiety since university. It manifests as shortness of breath, and I am certain it would progress to panic if I wasnt aware it was anxiety and able to calm myself back to a normal state.

There is something about the breath… Beathing in through the nose out through the mouth seems to quiet that ‘fight or flight’ panic you feel when an anxiety attack starts to brew. The 54321 technique busies your mind with what you can see touch hear smell and feel. It takes your thoughts away from what is causing the anxiety.

Next time you feel anxiety swelling in the pit of your belly just try it. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Much love
