The People 2

Chelsea told me she came from a village and it’s riffed with pirate history. That is why she got this pirate ship tattoo.  It’s when she bought a house in Campobello Island that she added the anchor.

Then she got divorced and “set sail again”.

Chelsea comes from a very cultured background. She shared with me that she travelled all over the country with her kids.  She has spoken to them in French, English & German since they were born.

She has a Hospitality and Tourism Business Management Degree and specialized in the culinary arts.  She has worked as a chef and restaurant manager (by the age of 26) all across the country.  She spoke with great pride as she shared her stories of hard work—jumping in to help her staff whenever needed.  She said “If I walked into my restaurant and they said they were sinking [I said] “no ill sink before you do”.”  She would have on her general management uniform doing dishes & working on the line.

Chelsea said  “jack of all trades master of none is always better than a master of one”.  In addition to working as a chef and restaurant manager, she can drywall, crack fill and has held many jobs working as stage crew for different events coming to town.

Chelsea told me coming from the business world she knows perception is everything.  She is often stereotyped for being homeless. She does not have a criminal record. She does not use substances. She is intelligent. And yes—she is homeless.

But she is such an incredible human with the most colourful story.

This is Chelsea.

  1. Thank you for doing this!
I’m finding your stories on this subject(s) a gift to me and very likely to the subjects themselves as well as yourself, I’m sure.
